5 men's hair styles for 2016

About four months ago I decided I wanted to grow my hair longer, even though I've tried to do it many times before and always given up halfway through. The guy who cuts my hair told me I'd never be able to stick to it. So, partly because I decided I really wanted to do it but mostly because I wanted to prove the haters wrong, I refused to give up and now have a fringe that's almost down to my nose.

My main issue with growing hair longer is I need to be able to style it because I can't go into work looking like a homeless person/One Direction member. In my search for styling answers I came across the following wisdom for what's going to be on trend in 2016, and I thought it would be useful to share for any other guys out there who are refusing to give in and get another buzzcut.

Cuts

The look I've got right now is the tapered undercut (image below), so it's long on top and cut really short at the sides with a very slight fade. It's pretty easy to maintain as long as you don't put anything too heavy in to style it with. I'm using a nourishing oil by Syoss (see bottom of this post) which stops it drying out.

A lot of guys in Zurich have this look (below) - it's more business-savvy and is longer than the undercut, so good for anyone who wants something a bit less edgy.

The modern side parting (below) is also a good look. It can look sort of preppy if you don't have much facial hair though. The guy in the picture rocks it because of his tattoos - but personally I think it might come off quite corporate. My boss would probably prefer my having this one

If you have straight hair like me, the longer it gets the more it'll fall to the sides like a 90s boyband curtains haircut. Luckily one style that's emerging for this year is hair that can be pushed back and falls slightly to the side, often with an undercut. The first image is more conservative, with more hair all over, while the second is more edgy (and much longer).

Bonus advice: Styling

I've used a lot of hair styling products - and I mean A LOT. I'm usually a fan of matt pastes but for longer hair I want a more natural, shinier finish with a good hold. The Fudge Hair Shaper (pictured below - get it here) was reccommended by a barber who cut my hair in Dubai. It genuinely smells like fudge too, so I spend all day feeling hungry.

Some days I need to give my hair a rest, especially since I shower at least once a day after working out. To stop it getting dry, my barber told me to use a hair oil. This has actually become more like a styling product now, because it's thick enough to hold my hair back but doesn't look slicked. I'm using Syoss Beauty Elixir oil (image below by makeupalley.com) because it's not expensive and got good reviews. Get it here.
